Why “B & C”?
“B & C” actually stands for “Beans and Carrots”, the story of which goes all the way back to 2005. At that time, we were living in Portland, Oregon, and one rainy evening while shopping at PetSmart, we came across two unbelievably adorable tuxedo kittens together in a cage in the adoption room. The boy kitten began to climb the cage door as soon as he saw us, and they both clung to us for dear life when we took them out of the cage. So, to make a long story short, we left the store with two brand new family members.
The kittens, a sister and brother that we named Buffy and Spike, quickly transitioned into our home, which already contained a yellow lab named Sandy and a Siberian husky named Misty (as well as Blinky the fish). Buffy and Spike adapted very well to their new canine sisters, who were curious, playful, and protective of them. Over the years, we moved many times, too many, sometimes thousands of miles across the country. Eventually, we settled in Arizona, but through all of it, Buffy and Spike maintained their same joyful, playful, curious, and lovable personalities despite the instability. We couldn’t leave a room without one (or both) of them following us. Watching TV always involved them cuddling up with us. A nap on the couch included one or two cats asleep on our side, chest, or head. And though there were many changes over the years, throughout it all, two things always remained the same, regardless of the circumstances: Buffy’s favorite snack was canned green beans, and Spike’s absolute favorite toys in the world were his stuffed carrots.
We’ve had great love for every animal in our family, but we had an emotional connection with Buffy and Spike that we haven’t fully experienced again. They led rich, adventurous, joy-filled lives with plenty of love from us… and for us as well.
We cherish the beautiful memories we have of the time that we shared with Buffy and Spike and the way they enriched our lives in more ways than we could ever put into words. So we are grateful to have the opportunity to not only remember, but also to honor, our “Beans and Carrots” in this way. We know that pet parents everywhere love and cherish their pets as much as we do, and we bring that same level of caring and compassion into our business, which, for us, represents our care and love for all animals.
